Will a dog learn not to go in the road after being hit by a car?

i have an american pitbull. he is a big baby....wouldnt hurt a fly..(might lick you to death but thats it.) but he has a problem with running... he slips his color if its not tight enough or he gets his leash off. when he does he is nearly impossible to get back. it's a very difficult task. the other day he got away and ran out in front of a car and got hit. he broke the cars headlight. i heard it hit him and i know it hit him hard. luckily he is ok. he spent the night at the vets to be sure. his leg was swollen a little and he has some cuts and abrasions on his legs and paws, but other than that he is ok. now i'm wondering if he will learn not to go in the road after his experience...
