How often does eye damage occur due to a corneal abrasion?

I scratched my eye two days ago, how I don't even know. I was just sitting there, and it suddenly started spazzing out. I went home for the night, and the next day I ended up going to urgent care due to it being very painful to blink, keep my eye open, and even close it. It was also tearing a lot. The physician gave me some antibiotic eye drops and told me if I didn't see noticeable improvement by today to contact an ophthalmologist. I have noticed a large improvement today, aka it doesn't hurt anymore, but my question is will this ever come back to bite me in the ***, and what are the chances that I got eye damage from this?
