Ladies, if Tampons can cause TSS/death, micro-abrasions, scarring and even fertility issues, why use them?

With the risk of death via Toxic Shock, vaginal scarring, permanent internal dryness issues, abrasions, and chemical effects of bleaching chemicals, why would any woman risk all that just to not use a pad? Is it worth it? I used to use tampons until I began hearing about all this. It seems unnatural and not worth the convenience to risk my health and future. But maybe I'm alone.
