Will I get pain and suffering from my car accident?

Recently I was in a car accident (I was in the passenger seat with my seat belt on), and my friend was driving. The breaks on the car went out so we rear ended another car. The car we were driving was totaled but the other car was just fine... lol. I was also the only person hurt in the accident. The airbag went off and hit me in the face, leaving my top lip the size of my palm. The airbag dust burned my face all over, and also burned my left cornea. I have another corneal abrasion in my right eye as well, it is more severe than the burn. I don't have any broken bones, but my nose and teeth are in terrible pain. The doctors and all of my specialists have said that there wont be any permanent eye damage, but there might be scarring on my face from the burns. I was wondering if without an attorney if I would be able to get any money for pain and suffering? If so, how much is a reasonable amount to ask for? (OH BTW, my friend does have insurance on the car).
